Varsity Sports Medicine provides the unique opportunity for young athletes to be evaluated a treated by a Pediatric Sports Medicine Specialist.

Christine R. Boyd, MD, FAAP, CSCS

Christine R. Boyd, MD, FAAP, CSCS, CICAfter a stellar athletic career at Foothill High School in Pleasanton, California,
Dr. Boyd attended Stanford University where she continued her athletic pursuits on the track and field team. As a sprinter and hurdler, she set several Stanford records during her time on the Farm, as well as served as team captain her junior and senior seasons. Graduating from Stanford in 1995 with degrees in Economics and Biology, she began her medical training at UC San Diego. She completed medical school in 1999, followed by a Pediatric Residency at Children's Hospital Oakland in 2001. After completing residency, she returned to Stanford for a two year Sports Medicine Fellowship. During her fellowship, Dr. Boyd worked primarily with the Stanford athletes and served as team physician for several teams.

Upon competition of her Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2004, Dr. Boyd returned to Children's Hospital Oakland where she was a co-founder of the Sports Medicine Center for Young Athletes. This was the first center of its kind in Northern California. In 2005,
Dr. Boyd left Children's Hospital Oakland and started her own private practice focused exclusively on the young athlete - Varsity Sports Medicine.

From 2005 through 2007, she continued her involvement with Stanford Sports Medicine though event coverage, lecturing and serving as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member. During this time, she was also the Medical Director of Sports Medicine for ValleyCare Health System and was seen weekly in Medical Minutes on High School Sports Focus. She continues to serve as a Sports Medicine Consultant for ValleyCare Health System. She is on the medical staff of both Children's Hospital Oakland and ValleyCare Hosptial.

Currently Dr. Boyd focuses her time on her private practice, caring for active youth
ages 5 through 25. Numerous current and past patients have continued their athletic pursuits on NCAA athletic teams, including football, soccer, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, gymnastics, swimming, diving, and equestrian. Several are now members of professional sports and Olympic teams.

Dr. Boyd is Board-Certified in Pediatrics and Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and member of the Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness. She is also a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association(NSCA) and American College of Sports Medicine(ACSM). She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

She lectures frequently to coaches, parents, athletes and pediatricians about the unique issues in caring for young athletes

When not caring for athletes, Dr. Boyd enjoys spending time with her husband, two young kids and two dogs. She is active in running, adventure races and coaching her kids' sports teams. She especially enjoys living in the community where she works, following her patient's athletic pursuits and successes.
